Mumbai, June 9: In an embarrassing situation for the Uttar Pradesh government, a student who they had rewarded with a cheque amount of Rs 1 lakh bounced when he had deposited it in the bank. Not only the cheque bounced, but the student had to also pay penalty charges for the dishonoured cheque.
Recently, the results of Class 10 Board Results were declared by the state education board. In order to reward the toppers of the exams, UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had organised a function wherein he felicitated them.
However, all did not go well for a student who was made to pay a price for administration’s shortcomings. Alok Mishra, who scored 93.5 percent and is a student of Young Stream Inter College in Barabanki district, was one of the toppers honoured by the CM is the state-sponsored reward function.
Alok ranked seventh in the state after which he was called in a function in Lucknow that took place on May 29. UP CM Yogi Adityanath had rewarded him a cheque of Rs 1 lakh for his hard-earned achievement.
As per a News18 report, Alok said that he was quite happy to receive the cheque from CM sir. He said, “I was really happy to receive the cheque from CM sir. Two days after submitting the cheque in the bank, we came to know that it had bounced after which I was a little disappointed.”
The reward of the cheque given to Alok and other toppers was issued and signed by Raj Kumar Yadav – District Inspector of Schools (DIOS), Barabanki. The cheque that bounced was of State Bank of India (SBI) departmental account. After depositing the cheque into his account, the money didn’t get credited to his account. Upon contacting the bank, he was informed that the cheque had bounced.
The bank stated that the cheque bounced because the signatures didn’t match. Raj Kumar Yadav said that the reason for cheque bouncing is that of signatures’ mismatch. He also said that no other student has raised a similar issue and a new cheque has been issued to Alok Mishra.
Uday Bhanu Tripathi, who is a District Magistrate of Barabanki, said that the matter was quite serious as it concerned to CM, and action will be taken if any carelessness is found in it.
