The National Testing Agency (NTA) has opened the window for the eligible candidates to register for the University Grants Commission (UGC) National Eligibility Test (NET) December 2018. All those who aspire to apply in college and university level lecturer or Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) or both can start with their application process online from today, September 1 at the agency’s official website; nta.ac.in. It is further recommended to all the applicants to read the official notification which has the eligibility criteria and then fill in the forms. From this year, NET will be conducted by NTA twice a year; the first one is scheduled to be held on December 9 to 23, 2018 and the second entrance test will be in the July 2019. Once the application procedure is done, the agency will publish the admit cards for students to download from November 19 and the results for December exam is expected on January 10. Few more improvements have been adopted by NTA while conducting the coveted exam. The candidates from this year will have to sit for only two papers instead of earlier 3.
All the candidates will have to make an application fee to finish the registration. The general category applicants will have to submit an application fee of Rs. 1,000, for OBC it is Rs. 500 while for SC/ST/PwD and transgender candidates shall pay Rs. 250. Aspirants with a minimum of 55 per cent marks in any of the master’s degree are eligible to appear for the UGC NET examination. The final year master’s candidates can also apply. Paper 1 will be of 100 marks and will have 50 objective type compulsory questions; each of them will carry 2 marks and will be of general nature to test the teaching and research aptitude of the candidate. The duration of the exam will be one hour. On the other hand, Paper 2 will be of 100 marks in which candidates will have to answer 100 objective type compulsory questions. Each question carries two marks and will be based on the subject opted by the candidates. In this paper, the duration of the exam will be of two hours.
