The Indian Institutes of Management (IIM) Kozhikode declared the Common Admission Test (CAT) 2019 result on January 4, 2020. Media reports noted that ten candidates, all males have topped the entrance exam scoring an overall 100 percentile. Management institutes will now release the application forms and admission criteria for the academic session of 2020-22. The IIMs are yet to announce their expected cut-offs for the admissions, which is expected to be released in a few days. As the admission process is nearing, candidates are advised to take a look at the top MBA colleges in India. These best management institute rankings are based on the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) 2019. IIM Bangalore, Ahmedabad and Delhi are among the top listed NIRF rankers 2019. 1. IIM Bangalore, Bengaluru, Karnataka
Over the years, the institute has gained a momentum among the MBA enthusiast, who every year, tries a level harder to get through the admissions. The institute’s ranking also developed than 2018, when it was ranked no. 2. As per NIRF rankings 2019, IIM Bangalore has topped the list. The institute also reportedly reduced CAT 2019 cut off percentile score by 5 points for MBA admissions 2020. Candidates scoring 85 percent and above can apply for the upcoming academic session. The confirmed cut off is yet to be released by IIM Bangalore.
2. IIM Ahmedabad, Gujarat
The NIRF ranking of IIM Ahmedabad slipped a little from being number 1 to be ranked number 2 in 2019. Depending with the CAT percentile, IIM Ahmedabad releases their cut-offs and follows their own selection criteria for selecting eligible candidates.
3. IIM Calcutta, Kolkata, West Bengal
2019 was the second consecutive year when IIM Calcutta had been ranked as third. The number of seats available in the MBA and PGP programme for 2020-22 is 460. The overall cut off for general category candidates in IIM Calcutta has so far been 90 percentile for the upcoming academic session; the institute is yet to decide.
4. IIM Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh
Like IIM Calcutta, IIM Lucknow too maintained its position for being at number 4 in NIRF rankings for a second consecutive year. The institute is yet to start its admission process. As the CAT results are announced, IIM Lucknow is expected to announce its cut off soon on the institute’s website.
5. IIM Indore, Madhya Pradesh
IIM Indore saw a massive improvement in terms of NIRF Rankings. The institute was placed at the 11th position in NIRF 2018 rank. The next year, it was placed at number 5, in terms of best MBA colleges in India. The shortlist for 2020 is expected soon for its 450 MBA/ PGP seats.
6. IIT Kharagpur, West Bengal
The ranking for IIT Kharagpur also improved as compared to 2018. From number 7, the institute reached the 6th spot of NIRF 2019 ranking. For its MBA programme of the academic session 2020-22, IIT Kharagpur will invite the eligible students to apply, based on the CAT 2019 percentile.
7. Xavier Labour Relations Institute (XLRI), Jamshedpur, Jharkhand
Challenging the dominance of IIMs and IITs in NIRF rankings this year, Xavier Labour Relations Institute (XLRI) improved its ranking from tenth in 2018 to seventh in 2019. This year, XLRI’s cut off is expected to go little higher than the previous year, considering its improvement in national rankings.
8. IIM Kozhikode, Kerala
The ranking for IIM Kozhikode dropped from number 6 in 2018 to number 8 in 2019. For the admission of academic session 2020-22, the institute was given the responsibility to host the national level entrance CAT. The institute has a total of 480 seats, and many candidates are waiting to apply for the admission, depending on the cut off when released by IIM Kozhikode.
9. IIT Delhi, New Delhi
IIT Delhi’s ranking slipped down to 9th from 8th position in 2018 NIRF rankings. The Department of Management Studies (DMS) offers the MBA programme and accepts CAT score for the admissions. The cut-offs for the upcoming academic session, is 90 percentile.
10. IIT Bombay, Maharashtra
In 2018, IIT Bombay was ranked at number 5, in terms of best MBA institutes in India. But in 2019, it some managed to grab the 10th position, a massive drop from the 2018 NIRF rankings. The Shailesh J Mehta School of Management (SJMSoM) at IIT Mumbai uses the CAT score to shortlist candidates for its MBA admission.
These are the best-ranked management institutes, as per NIRF 2019. Every year, the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) announces the rankings depending on the decided parameters that the institutes need to achieve. The above IIMs, IITs and business schools will use the CAT 2019 scores and release their respective cut-offs for admission into their management programmes.
