The Times Higher Education (THE) has released the World University Rankings 2019 for engineering and technology. After managing to secure itself in the QS Rankings, both India and Asia, the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) is now ranked among the top 100 best universities in engineering and technology across the world. The Bangalore based university was ranked 95 beating IIT Bombay and Delhi who found its place in the band of 151-175 and 201-250 respectively. Besides, IIT Roorkee has improved its position from 251-300 to 201-250 rank worldwide. IIT Bombay Tops QS Rankings of Indian Institutions; IISc Bengaluru & IIT Madras Bagged Second & Third Spots.
In September this year, when THE released the World University Rankings, IISc Bangalore had made it to the 251-300 rank band and was the highest ranked Indian University in the list. This year’s ranking has expanded to include 500 institutions, up from 100 last year. 38 Indian universities were among the world’s best institutes managing its name in the list. The newly-established IIT Indore saw itself in the rank band of 301-400, is the other Indian University to feature with the top 100. IIT Roorkee departments of Computer Science, Chemical, Civil, Electrical and Mechanical Engineering have been individually ranked 3rd nationally as well. Sharing his delight on this significant improvement, the Director of IIT Roorkee, Prof Ajit K Chaturvedi was quoted in NDTV as saying, “The Engineering ranking underscores IIT Roorkee's engineering legacy. Our excellent performance in all the main streams of Engineering is a testament to our focus on the future. The Institute has taken several initiatives to attract research scholars and exceptional faculty from around the world.”
