Shardashram Switches to ICSE: Sachin Tendulkar's School Decides to Leave State Board, Unhappy Parents Complain
Shardashram Vidyamandir has decided to introduce the ICSE board by replacing the state board SSC that was taught in the school for the past 50 years.
Mumbai, April 26:The legendary cricketer and master batsman Sachin Tendulkar, who celebrated his 45th birthday on April 24, may not have changed much but the school of the Bharat Ratna Awardee- the prestigious and well known Shardashram Vidyamandir has decided to introduce the ICSE board by replacing the state board SSC that was taught in the school for the past 50 years.
The Times of India in a report mentioned that the school management has cited the reason for moving to ICSE board as a way to “meet the demands for a budget Council” for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE) school. But many parents are reported to be angry at school’s decision to entirely do away with state education board known as SSC in Mumbai.
The school which boasts of alumni like Sachin Tendulkar and Vinod Kambli and which had Ramakant Achrekar as its Cricket coach was set up in the year 1969. It is located in Central Mumbai in Dadar locality which is a prime location in Mumbai. Dadar also boasts of the famous Shivaji Park where Sachin grew up playing and honing his skills. But some parents are of the opinion that the school doesn’t really have the infrastructure for ICSE course and that it was doing well with state board affiliation.
The Times of India report also mentions the response of the school authorities who claim that the parents were informed about the decision two years in advance. Many parents met the school’s administrative officer Subhas Jadhav along with members of Shiv Sena’s youth wing Yuva Sena. Jadhav has assured parents that they will be informed about the school’s decision soon.
In the past few years, there have been numerous instances when state board schools have changed into international board schools as the demand for the same has been on the rise. However, it should also be considered that these schools charge a very high fee as compared to the state board schools that not all parents can afford.
