Sharda University Noida Campus Closed Till Sunday: Protest Against Kashmiri Students Turns Violent, One Student Injured

A Sharda University student from Kashmir was brutally beaten up by a group of other students who were demanding eviction of Afghani students from the Greater Noida campus, Uttar Pradesh. Amidst tension, as it turned violent, media reports stated that the university is now closed till Sunday, October 7. Following clashes and protest, there is a speculation that it might affect and postpone the mid-term exams until the situation gets settled down. Further, a few disturbing videos were shared on social media. The scuffle has begun earlier this week between local students and a few Afghani students over some issue. The local students took out protest demonstration demanding eviction of all the Afghan students from the varsity, who allegedly beat up some local students on the campus, a few days ago. While the protestors were marching ahead, they came across a Kashmiri student, caught hold of him and beat him up to the pulp. Spectators reported that the first-year student identified as Ahtisham was beaten so severely, that blood exuded from his nose and mouth. He was sent to the hospital immediately. Sharda University authorities termed the incident as a ‘minor scuffle’ between the two groups and told the reporters that the student has only suffered minor injuries. On the other hand, the police officials alleged lack of cooperation from the university. They further noted the authorities have been very careless on the matter boiling since Monday. No written complaint has been received from the deemed university; hence further investigations are on hold. Unless there is a written complaint on the issue, the department cannot register a case on its own, reported a senior police official.
