Pune, August 24: Pune's Savitribai Phule University (SPPU) has the distinction of organising the first PEN International Congress in India. The event will be organised by the University from September 25 to 29. PEN is a forum of authors, editors and writers, who come together to deliberate and discuss on the future of language and literature.
According to the report, internationally acclaimed linguist, Ganesh Devi, will be the convenor. Other prominent writers, linguists and language experts will also be part of the Congress said report.
The university also plans to create an ecosystem of language and linguists will also plant trees near the University's international center.
PEN International is a worldwide association of writers. It was founded in London in the year 1921. Its stated mission is to promote intellectual co-operation between writers all over the world.
The university has also sent a 5-year-plan for consideration. The state government will take a call on whether to approve the plan.
The report says that a five-year-plan beginning from 2019 to 2024, has been sent for approval to the state government.
NS Umraani, SPPU’s pro-vice chancellor, was quoted saying by the paper that the draft of the plan was prepared keeping in mind the criteria, expansion, inclusiveness, skill development and job creation. The pro-vice chancellor added that the views of people and experts from various walks of life was also taken into consideration while drafting the plan.
