The Indian Railway Recruitment Board (RRB) has released the examination dates for Group C and D Assistant Loco Pilot, Technicians and Level-I posts on their official website; indianrailways.gov.in. According to the notification, the Computer Based Examinations will be conducted in the months of August to September 2018. It further states that RRB will be done with the application scrutiny procedures by the first week of July for the available posts. However, a confirmed date has not been released by the board. Reportedly, the Indian Railways have received 2.27 crore of applications for over 89,000 vacancies.

The RRB candidates had to wait for real long time after the board closed its application procedures. A massive protest was done by ‘Rozgaar Maange India’ group outside the Rail Bhavan on June 29 where they complained about delay in the exam dates announcement. The available vacancies were advertised in the month of February 2018 and as per the earlier reports, the examinations were supposed to be conducted in the month of April or May. This announcement came in with the continuation of previous notice that the process was on for both the Centralized Employment Notices (CEN) (CEN 01/2018: Assistant Loco Pilot/ Technicians and CEN 02/2018: Level-I posts).

The notification further recommended candidates to refer only to the official websites of RRBs for the related updates and not entertain or mislead any rumours by ‘unauthenticated news items/posts’. RRB will conduct the examination and the question papers will be in 15 different languages—Hindi, English, Urdu, Bengali, Punjabi, Gujarati, Kannada, Konkani, Assamese, Malayalam, Manipuri, Marathi, Odia, Tamil and Telugu.

The applications are for the recruitment of Group C Level II posts like Assistant Loco Pilots, Technicians (Fitter, Crane Driver, Blacksmith and Carpenter) and Group C Level I (Erstwhile Group D) vacancies for the positions like Track maintainer, Points man, Helper, Gaterman, Porter was open for those who have cleared the class 10th board exams or Diploma or Graduation holders in Engineering.
