Railway Group C & D Recruitment 2018: 20,000 More Government Jobs Promised by Indian Railways

In an attempt to create more job opportunities, the Indian Railways has announced a 20,000-increase in vacancies in the Group C, D jobs in Indian Railways.department. According to an infographic released by the department, the existing 90,000 vacancies in the sector has been increased to 1,10,000, thus creating 20,000 additional job opportunities.

As per previous reports, the Railway Board had invited applications in March for over 90,000 posts and over 1.5 crore candidates have applied so far and the number is believed to be rising with each passing day. Furthermore, 10,000 additional jobs will be created in L-1 and L-2 categories, the department said.

In addition to this, the department also notified that over 9,000 jobs would be created in the Railway Protection Force (RPF) and Railway Protection Special Force (RPSF), advertisements for which are slated to be published in May this year.The decision follows, a series of changes made in the Railways by Union Minister Piyush Goyal along the lines of improving travel safety, avoiding derailment, electrification, and modernisation of the Indian Railways using new technology. On March 20, lakhs of train commuters on the Central Line in Mumbai were left stranded as students protested on the railway tracks between Dadar and Matunga stations, thus disrupting the services. These protesting students demanded permanent jobs from the Indian Railways.

The age limit specifically for various level of exams is comparatively decreased. It may be noted that in case of Group D exams for general category, the upper age limit has been fixed at 30 years from 28 years whereas for reserved categories there is a relaxation. As per reports, the Railway Recruitment Board will tentatively conduct the exam during April and May, 2018.
