The Revenue and Disaster Management Department of the Government of Odisha on June 21 issued a show-cause notice to Kendriya Vidyalaya school for holding classes during summer vacation. The state government in an earlier notice asked the institutions to extend the holidays till June 25 due to intense heat. But despite the order, the central school was found to hold classes with children who were forced to travel in the humid conditions. Looking at the gross weather which might cause some serious implications on the health of the students, a show-cause notice has been issued to the school authorities.
In the official letter, the Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) Bishnupada Sethi wrote, “It has come to the notice of the government that in utter violation of the direction of the state government, your school continues to hold classes. As a result, young children (students) have been compelled to travel in severe hot and humid condition and attend the classes in such situation. This might have serious implication on the life and health condition of students and others.” He further wrote and asked the authorities to explain as to why action shall not be initiated against the concern person of KV school for such a violation.
The media reports are further claiming that the school has been directed to submit an explanation within three days and if in any case they fail to do it, strict action will be taken against the school authorities. One of the school officer informed that as soon as they got the show-cause letter, they declared holidays till June 25.
