NIRF Rankings 2018: Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore and Miranda House Awarded Best University and College by HRD Ministry
As per the latest NIRF rankings, HRD Minister Prakash Javadekar announced the list of best Universities and Colleges across the country, earlier today.
Mumbai, April 03: Indian Institute of Science, in Bangalore, and Miranda House, in Delhi emerged as the winners in categories of best University and College respectively, as per the 2018 National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF). The NIRF rankings were conceptualised by Ministry of Human Resource and Development (HRD) in the year 2015.
As per the latest NIRF rankings, HRD Minister Prakash Javadekar announced the list of best Universities and Colleges across the country, earlier today. The following ranking lists were prepared by keeping several pre-determined parameters in mind, by the education ministry.
In the list of top-rank universities, it was Indian Institute of Science (IISc) in Bangalore topped the list, scoring 82.16 points. Second on the list was the much controversial Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) in Delhi with 67.57 points. Banaras Hindu University (BHU) secured the third spot on the list.

In the list of top-ranked colleges, it was Miranda House in Delhi that secured the top spot with 71 points. The second-ranked St. Stephen’s College was not too behind as it was only 0.23 points behind the top-ranked Miranda House, scoring 70.77 points. Third on the list was Bishop Herber College which is located in Tiruchirappalli, in Tamil Nadu.

In the overall category, it was again IISc Bangalore who topped the category. IIT Madras and IIT Bombay were on the second and third spots respectively in the list.

The NIRF Rankings launched by the Government of India is calculated on the basis of pre-defined parameters and its sub-parameters by the HRD Ministry. The five parameters are Teaching, Learning & Resources; Research and Professional Practise; Graduation Outcomes; Outreach and Inclusivity; and Perception.
