The National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) is conducting the practical examinations for class 10 students. As per the recent notification, NIOS written examinations will begin from October 8, 2018. However, over 200 students alleged the authorities that they were given only 60 minutes instead of 90 minutes to complete their practical exam. The reporting time for the practical exam was scheduled at 2:00 pm. Despite reaching the venue before the time, the parents complained that the students were asked to wait outside and were allowed to enter the examination hall at 2:30 pm. JEE Mains 2019 Schedule: NTA to Announce Allotment of Exam Dates & Shift Details Tomorrow.

According to the timetable, the actual time for the 60-mark exam was between 2:00 pm and 3:30 pm. The outrage came in, when the invigilators began to collect the answer sheets, deducting half an hour from the total time duration of the exam. The incident happened at one of the exam centres on October 3 during the Data Entry practical exam at Azam campus, Pune. A tutor told The Indian Express that none of the students was informed of any change in timings and they were even provided with old computers to work on, which also ‘hampered their performance.’

One of the authorities was quoted in the same report as saying, “The actual time of the exam was between 2 pm and 3.30 pm. But, we had another exam scheduled at the same centre, prior to this one. That is why, we could not keep up with the time and had to delay in starting the latter examination. Out of 40 students, only one complained of falling short of time.” He added, “How much time will you require to answer four questions? We informed the students at the start of the exam, that the duration would be one hour instead of 90 minutes.”

Meanwhile, NIOS has released the admit card for the practical and written exam on October 1 for the class 10 students. Class 12 examination begins from October 6. The institute provides many Vocational, Life Enrichment and community oriented courses besides General and Academic Courses at Secondary and Senior Secondary level. At present, about 2.71 million students are enrolled at the Secondary, Senior Secondary and Vocational streams.
