The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) conducted its most coveted National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) on May 6, 2018. Over 13 lakh candidates appeared in the medical entrance exam. Following a complaint by the Director of NEET, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has filed a case against four individuals who promised NEET aspirants to secure admission in government and private colleges. The accused were identified Ashwani Tomar and Arti Tomar as owners of Delhi-based Akruti Education, Mohit Kumar a tout from Uttar Pradesh and holder of Punjab-based consultancy agency Manoj Sikka on charges of criminal conspiracy and cheating.

On the day of exam, May 6, a complaint was lodged by the Sanyam Bhardwaj, Director of NEET against the four persons of helping the candidates to qualify NEET 2018. “Kumar is accused of acting as the tout for the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) exam by promising to secure admission in government and private colleges across India,” the FIR reads. CBSE reported that Kumar would lure students and their parents of helping them to clear NEET. He was in contact with the Tomars and Manoj Sikka as they provided consultancy to the prospective candidates appearing NEET.

Apart from this, media reports are claiming that at West Bengal many students were not provided with the question papers on their choice of language. In this case, Chief Minister, Mamata Banerjee demands immediate action and re-examination from the Ministry of Human Resource Development.

More than 3,000 medical aspirants at Tamil Nadu had to travel out of the state to sit for the exam on Sunday. To ease the situation, the Tamil Nadu government announced to sponsor train tickets’ fair in addition to monetary assistance of Rs. 1000 per candidate who had to travel to give the exam. After rounds of hullabaloos, CBSE finally conducted NEET for undergraduates in a peaceful manner. This year, the number of examination centres were also increased to 2,255 across the nation to accommodate more and more students.
