There have been significant changes in the competitive exams as decided by the Government of India. A few days back, students were taken by storm when the Union Human Resource Department (HRD) Prakash Javadekar announced that the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) and National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) will be conducted twice in a year from now by the National Testing Agency (NTA). Now the entrance tests are set for a fundamental overhaul from the coming year. The recent update includes that each candidate will be given a unique set of question paper with a software picking questions at random and multiple dates for taking an exam.

TOI reported that the modification is driven by NTA which will host its first exam in December. “The tests will be 100 per cent safe. The highest level of encryption will be used so that no one can hack into the system,” Vineet Joshi director general of NTA was quoted saying in the same report. NTA earlier discussed its plans to rely heavily on technological tools such as artificial intelligence, psychometric analysis and computer-based adaptive testing, in which aspirants will come across to the next level questions. The officials further reported that the test would be designed in a way that routine learning and severe coaching will only help the candidates if he or she is thorough with the syllabus.

The officials further informed that the computer-based tests for NEET and JEE will have several advantages as the students will be able to visit the questions later once they are done with the easier ones. In case if a candidate is unhappy with the score, they can sit again for the entrance test after three months. At present, NTA is looking through psychometric analysis of the previous years’ tests to analyse how each question has fared. In a force to improve the quality of the entrance tests, it seems that the level of difficulty keeps increasing for the students. They will have to do an in-depth study of their course in and out. However, MHRD had confirmed that the syllabus for NEET 2019 would not change.
