NCERT Class 12 New Political Science Textbook Adds Section on Article 370 Abrogation From Jammu and Kashmir
The NCERT has introduced topic related to the abrogation of Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir in the Class 12 Political Science textbook. Apart from this, the NCERT has also replaced the topic 'Separatism and beyond' with '2002 and Beyond' in the textbook. All the following changes have been made in the textbook 'Politics in India since Independence.'
New Delhi, July 21: The National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) has introduced topic related to the abrogation of Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir in the Class 12 Political Science textbook. Apart from this, the NCERT has also replaced the topic 'Separatism and beyond' with '2002 and Beyond' in the textbook. All the following changes have been made in the textbook 'Politics in India since Independence.'
According to the new textbook, in which a new section titled '2002 and Beyond' has been added, the abrogation of Article 370 has been mentioned. It says, "During the tenure of Mehbooba Mufti, major acts of terrorism, mounting external and internal tensions were witnessed. The President’s rule was imposed in June 2018 after BJP withdrew its support to the Mufti government. On 5 August 2019, Article 370 was abolished by the Jammu & Kashmir Reorganisation Act 2019 and the state was constituted into two Union Territories, viz., Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh." Among other new chapters like '2002 and Beyond', specific mention about coalition government has been mentioned. The chapter reads, "As per the coalition agreement, Mufti Mohammed headed the government for the first three years succeeded by Ghulam Nabi Azad. of the Indian National Congress who however could not complete the term as president rule was imposed in the state in July 2008."
In the issue of terrorism, witnessed by the Omar Abdullah government since 2009 has also been stated in detail. It continues to add the successive government by Mahbooba Mufti when the disturbances in the state grew to the extreme. Following this, abrogation of Article 370 and issues related with have been discussed. Though the new political science textbook talks about pluralism, it also defines Kashmiriyat. However, in this attempt, the term 'Kashmiri identity', which was used in the older version, has been removed.
