Modi Cabinet 2.0: HRD Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Submits New Education Policy Draft On First Day, Revival of Academic Sector Expected

With the formation of the PM Narendra Modi-government and Union ministers taking charge of their respective departments, the New National Education Policy draft has been submitted by HRD Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal on first day at the office.

New Delhi, May 31: With the formation of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-government and Union ministers taking charge of their respective departments, the New National Education Policy draft has been submitted on Friday. The newly appointed Union Human Resource Development Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank submitted the NEP draft today soon after taking charge of his ministry.

According to the new NEP draft, this is the primary focus of the MHRD 100-day plan and its promise of previous Modi government too. Under this plan, the revival of the educational policy is being considered where there would be an increase in the number of institutes of eminence to 30. Along with this, the draft includes preparation of higher education commission of India as well as to fill the five lakh vacancies in the higher education sector. The redrafting of the framework within which is expected to work. Earlier the National Educational Policy came in 1968 under the then Prime Minister-led Indira Gandhi and the second one arrived in 1986 under the PM Rajiv Gandhi.

Debating on the revival of the educational policy, BJP had been stating that socio-economic factors have changed a lot in the last three decades. Now considering the fact, that the new educational policy has taken the confrontations of 2.75 lakh individuals in drafting the policy, the Union government does not want to implement it soon.

In the meantime, Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led Union Cabinet on Friday hiked the scholarship under National Defence Fund in its first meeting for both boys and girls. The scholarship amount for was hiked from Rs 2,500 to Rs 3,000 for daughters of defence personnel and from Rs 2000 to Rs 2500.
