MBBS 2018 Fee Hike: Colleges Under Deemed Universities of Maharashtra Increase Fees by Over 50 Per Cent
The MBBS course is of a four-and-a-half-year programme, therefore, if the fees amount is calculated arbitrarily, then a single student from the general category has to spend around Rs 1 crore and students of NRI quota to spend Rs 2 crore
Mumbai, June 14: Colleges under Maharashtra's state deemed universities have hiked fees of medical education course -- Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) for the current year, 2018. According to a news report in The Times of India, colleges like DY Patil of Pune, Navi Mumbai, Kolhapur, MGM Medical College --Navi Mumbai, Aurangabad, Bharti Vidyapeeth of Pune, Sangli, Krishna Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS), Karad, have hiked the MBBS education fees by 50 per cent to 80 per cent as compared to last year.
The report states that the Krishna Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS), Karad, tops the list. As compared to last year, the admission fees to seek admission in MBBS, the student has to shell out Rs. 22 lakh, which was Rs. 12 lakh the previous year-- an over 80 percent hike. Similarly, the DY Patil college of Pune city will charge Rs 26 lakh per annum as compared to Rs 17. 5 lakh last year. The same college group which also runs its academy in Kolhapur city has also increased it MBBS education fees by over 60 per cent and students will have to pay Rs. 22 lakh.
The deemed universities fees are not regulated by the state government. Therefore, these colleges are found increasing their fees every consecutive year. Out of the 11 affiliated colleges to deemed universities in the state, six colleges have reportedly hiked their fees to Rs 20 lakh and above this year.
Besides, the students who are seeking admission under NRI quota, the fees structure has become more expensive. Fees for students in the NRI quota at an institute stands at Rs 66.8 lakh, followed by four other colleges(unnamed) that are offering quota seats at Rs 40.6 lakh.
