Maharashtra State Board Exam Results 2018: Half of Science Stream Students of Ismail Yusuf College in Jogeshwari Failed HSC Exams

The Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (MSBSHSE) declared their Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) class 12 results on May 30. While science stream witnessed the highest pass percentage of 95.85 percent as compared to others, a number of students from a college in Jogeshwari, Mumbai failed in HSC science stream board exams 2018. Over half of HSC candidates from Ismail Yusuf College could not clear the Maharashtra Board HSC examinations. This shocking result have discouraged students and their concerned parents as they gathered outside the college gate on May 4.
A total of 311 candidates sat for HSC science stream board exams from the Institute, out of which 154 students flunked in the examination. Mumbai Mirror reports that most of the students have failed in Mathematics and Physics. The report further reveals that the college’s students are claiming the authorities have not submit their internal exam marks to the Maharashtra State Board which has resulted such a fall. One of the student was quoted in the same report, “We want to know if the college has submitted the internal marks to the board. We have been asking ever since the results were declared, but the college refuses to tell us anything.”
The students also pointed at the institute’s quality of education and informed that they did not had a Math teacher for a whole year. Students had to depend on private coaching. In a respond to the embarrassing situation, Principal Swati Wavhal told, “The marksheets will be released on June 12. Only then will the picture be clear. The failures’ count is not shocking. Every year, the pass percentage is 50 to 55 per cent. We have students from poor socio-economic backgrounds, many of whom work while pursuing studies.”
At an usual strength, the cut offs for students under general categories range between 50 to 55 percent. Reserved category candidates get admission with even 35 percent marks in the college. As the Maharashtra Board announced the HSC results 2018, girls have outshined with a pass percentage of 92.16 percent over boys who secured 85.3 percent pass. 89.50 students under commerce stream successfully cleared the exam and arts stood at a pass percentage of 78.96 percent.
