Chennai and its neighbouring districts saw heavy rain on Wednesday evening due to a well-marked low-pressure area over the southwest Bay of Bengal. After the Chennai Collector declared a holiday for all schools and colleges, Madras University also cancelled the examination which was scheduled today, November 22 amidst massive rainfall alert in Chennai and its surrounding areas. “Due to heavy rains in Chennai and its surrounding Madras University cancels exams scheduled on 22nd November. The rescheduled date for this exam will be announced soon. Exams conducted by the University Departments on 22nd November 2018 are also cancelled,” reads the statement issued by Madras University. Further, university examinations for Nagapattinam, Thiruvarur and Pudukkottai districts will not be conducted on November 22 and November 23. The schedule for the same will be announced later. Other deemed institutions like the Anna University and Puducherry University had cancelled the examinations following Cyclone Gaja in Tamil Nadu. The state governments have been taking precautions and donations pour in for Tamil Nadu in the aftermath of cyclone Gaja. ANI earlier reported that Meteorological Centre’s district rainfall forecast chart predicts heavy to very heavy rainfall in Chennai with a very likely occurrence probability.
