Karnataka Government Extends Ban on Online Classes Till Class 7

The state government has now extended the ban on online classes until class seven. On Wednesday, the government decided to not allow online classes till class 5. The decision was taken on the recommendation by Nimhans director.

Karnataka, June 11: On Thursday, the state government extended the ban on online classes until class VII as compared to class 5 in its earlier decision.  Yesterday, the Karnataka education Minister S Suresh Kumar was by Nimhans director who shared that online classes should be conducted for kids only above 6 years of age. According to Law Minister J C Madhuswamy, the decision to extend the ban on online classes till class 7 was taken in the cabinet meeting after ministers shared that online classes were posing as a big challenge to kids in the rural areas.

Kumar on Wednesday informed that all private schools have been directed to refrain from increasing any type of fee for the 2020-21 academic year as parents and guardians were burdened under financial stress due to the coronavirus fallout. The decision to ban online classes was taken following complaints to the Primary and Secondary Education Department by several parents that private schools were allegedly conducting online classes even for kindergarten children. Parents had also expressed concerns that online classes are also increasing kids being exposed to electronic devices for a longer duration.
