JNU Online Entrance Exam Will Be Held in May by NTA; Know Key Points for the 2019–20 Admissions
The 148th academic council of the university has also decided to double the number of centres for the benefit of the candidates participating in JNUEE.
The Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) last month issued a notice regarding the postponement of the entrance exams for the academic session 2019-20. However, the institute has not released the exam dates. According to the recent reports, JNU will now conduct the online entrance exams in May 2019 by the newly-established, National Testing Agency (NTA). The decision was taken in the 148th academic council of the university which was held on December 7. In the meeting among other key points, it has also been decided to double the number of centres for the benefit of the candidates participating in JNUEE. Key Points Discussed at the JNU 148th Academic Council for 2019–20 Admissions
1. Online test will be conducted in May 2019.
2. For its online entrance test, JNU authorities have decided NTA to conduct its entrance exam.
3. The number of entrance exam centres will be doubled.
4. Mock test centres will be introduced to make candidates familiar with the recent online exam.
5. For the 2019-2020 admissions, nearly 1080 M.Phil and PhD seats will be offered for enrolment.
This recent introduction of the online test, to shortlist the brightest lots, has been vehemently criticised by the students’ union. JNUSU president N. Sai Balaji while he was elected was quoted in earlier reports as saying, “The online examination consists of multiple choice questions [MCQs] of 70 marks each for all courses, which negates a comprehensive evaluation of analytical, writing and other skills which are so very necessary, particularly in humanities and social sciences. Not even IITs have MCQs as an exam module for social science and humanities departments.”
