JNU Entrance Exam 2019: Jawaharlal Nehru University Prospectus Released, Fees Not Hiked

The Jawaharlal Nehru University is likely to increase its entrance exam fees by a whopping 300 per cent. To ease tensions of students across the country, JNU will be conducting its entrance exam online for the first time this year.

New Delhi, March 15: The Jawaharlal Nehru University issued a statement on Friday clarifying no hike in the fee structure of entrance exam. Earlier, there were reports that JNU is likely to increase its entrance exam fees by a whopping 300 per cent. To ease tensions of students across the country, JNU will be conducting its entrance exam online for the first time this year. The Central University has roped in NTA (National Testing Agency) to conduct the online multiple-choice questions exam. According to reports on Thursday, JNU students' union called for a strike after a report claiming an increase in fee structure leaked online. An earlier report claimed that there has been a 300 per cent hike in the price of prospectus -- Rs 3,600 for the general category, Rs 2,700 for the OBC category and Rs 1,800 for SC and ST categories, and others. Eligibility Criteria for Jawaharlal Nehru University.

Reacting on the fake prospectus, the students union on Thursday burned an effigy of the varsity's vice-chancellor to condemn the "anti-student" prospectus. They claimed that Vice-Chancellor Mamidala Jagadesh Kumar unilaterally increased the prospectus fees by 300 per cent, closed down BA lateral entry programme in School of Languages, and de-linked MPhil-PhD programme which was an integrated programme.

As the admissions are approaching for JNU, Here are some important dates:

  • The registration process starts on March 15
  • The registration process will close on April 15, 2019.
  • Students can correct their application forms from April 17 to April 19.
  • Admit cards: 22 April
  • Exams will be held on May 27, 28, 29 and 30.

Meanwhile, the JNU entrance exams will be held on May 27, 28, 29 and 30. The registration for JNU 2019-20 admission started on Friday till April 15, 2019. For this academic year, there are total 3,383 seats, of which 1,043 are for MPhil and PhD courses, available this year.  (With PTI Inputs)
