JEE Main 2018 Registrations: Major Decline in Figures Shares CBSE
According to recent figures shared by the CBSE, nearly 11.48 lakh students have registered to JEE Main 2018 while the total number of applicants stood to 11.99 lakh last year; a drop of 51,000 registrations.
The Central Board of Secondary Education (CSBE) declares that registrations of JEE Main 2018 are reduced to 51,000 than last time. Lakh of students are witnessed to register for Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main every year. And that’s no surprise since JEE Main are the most popular exams among students who aspire to get admissions into the Indian Institute of Technology (IITs), National Institutes of Technology (NITs) and other premier Engineering Institutes. But the numbers of JEE Main Registrations are seen to face a major decline since few years.
According to recent figures shared by the CBSE, nearly 11.48 lakh students have registered to JEE Main 2018 while the total number of applicants stood to 11.99 lakh last year; a drop of 51,000 registrations.
In the last 4 years alone, the total registrations have been dropped by 15.30%. “Students are very smart these days and know that a degree alone is of no use if it does not assure a lucrative job thereafter. Courses such as management and law are becoming increasingly popular among the youth these days whereas a degree in medicine or engineering seems to have taken a back seat,” says the Director of a State-based Engineering Institute in a media report.
The statistics stood at 13.04 lakh in 2015 and 12.07 lakh in 2016. A total of 1.63 lakh applicants are solely from Maharashtra; the number has increased by 4000 compared to last year. Followed by Uttar Pradesh with 1.50 lakh. The decreasing demand for admissions to Engineering Institutes is reflected in the coming statistics. However, the experts hold that the drop in numbers will not discourage JEE Main aspirants. Students who are serious about the course will write the entrance test. The last day for registration of JEE Main was on December 27, but the dates were extended to January 10, 2018, especially for students from Manipur as the State has recently joined the national-level exam.
