IIT Bombay Beats IIT Delhi in QS World University Rankings 2019: Check List of Top 500 Universities Across the Globe

IIT-B has bagged to 162nd rank than its previous year’s 179 and beats IIT Delhi. Indian Institute of Science Bangalore stood at second after IIT-B, securing 170th ranking.

On June 6, the most awaited Quacquarelli Symonds, QS World University Rankings 2019 has been released. Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IIT-B), Indian Institute of Science (IITSc) Bangalore and Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT-D) in top 200 in the world university rankings. In the list, IIT Bombay took the throne from IIT-D of being India’s top university of 2019. IIT-B has bagged to 162nd rank than its previous year’s 179. Indian Institute of Science Bangalore stood at second after IIT-B, securing 170th ranking.

While IIT-B, IIT-D, IITSc are in the list of top 200 best universities in the world, other IITs such as Madras, Kharagpur, Guwahati, Kanpur, Roorkee and University of Delhi achieved rankings in top 500. Well, Indian academia have reasons to celebrate. In addition, the number of Indian Universities in the top 1000 list has increased to 24 from previous year’s 20.

Ben Sowter, Research Director at QS released a statement; “Research produced by the faculty at the 19 Indian universities ranked in both the 2018 and 2019 rankings has yielded, cumulatively, 803,000 citations. This is 85,000 more than in 2018's edition of the rankings, which is creditworthy. The rise is also responsible for India's overall citations-per-faculty ratio rising from 46.90 in 2018 to 50.74 in 2019.” To check the list of top 500 Universities across the globe; click here.

While Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) continued to be number 1 in the QS World Rankings 2019 followed by Stanford University, Harvard University, California Institute of Technology and University of Oxford; top 5 in the list. QS World University Rankings is an annual publication of university rankings in the world. It is the only international ranking to earn the International Ranking Expert Group (IREG) approval. The QS ranking is viewed as one of the three most-widely read universities in the world, along with Academic Ranking of World Universities and Times Higher Education World University Rankings.
