A few days ago, the Ministry of Law and Justice informed that fresh Board of Governors would be appointed across each Indian Institute of Management (IIM) keeping up with the IIM Act 2017. The government finally gave its nod to the move. According to media reports, the Ministry of Human Resource Development along with the provisions of IIM Act, stated that each IIM would have their own Board of Governors (BoG) by December 15, 2018. A statement issued by the HRD Ministry, the present nominees of the existing boards, will be withdrawn soon. IIM Calcutta Witness 100% Summer Placements! The new BoG will consist of three ex-officio members—institute’s current director, existing state government representees and union government on the Board. These three members will re-select a chairperson, who will be responsible for appointing five alumni members, faculty members and four eminent members for a full new term under IIM Act 2017, Section 10. This process is expected to be completed before December 15, 2018. “On completion of the constitution of the Boards... The rules under the IIM Act would be issued, which would bring out the operational details more clearly,” the statement reads. RRB ALP, Technician Recruitment 2018: Second Stage CBT Postponed to December 24.

IIM Act 2017 requires each institute to set up a 15-member Board with representation from specific categories including alumni, reserved categories, faculty and so on. The IIM BoG is the principal executive body for the institute and is its most potent organ under the new autonomy regime which has done away with administrative roles. The members will have the authority to decide fees for courses and to create academic and administrative posts and also establish faculties as well as departments.
