The Gujarat University has come up with some significant changes. Just recently, it decided to do away with their online admissions, a few days later formed a three-member committee to find out development fee defaulters and now reduces exam duration. Yes, the academic and syndicate of Gujarat University approved to cut down the time limit of the written exams by 30 minutes. The decision is to be implemented from the semester-end exams conducted by the varsity in December. Students will now get 2.5 hours to answer all the questions that will hold a weight of 70 maximum marks.
After the introduction of the semester system, it was reported that the University had trouble to conduct the exams smoothly. Hence, the Exam Reforms Committee put the recommendation of reducing the time to the varsity. A syndicate and a member of the exam reform committee was quoted in a TOI report as saying, “This will reduce the burden of conducting exams on the university and thus, the results will be announced promptly, and exams can be completed quickly.” The University officials further believe that this decision will allow GU to host three exams in a day. Now, students will have to increase their speed in answering the questions during the semester examinations.
With the reduction of the time limit, the exams which continue for nearly two months will come down to 35 days. Each paper will consist of 70 maximum marks. Students have to answer 14 objective questions along with four subjective questions. On the other hand, the Gujarat University will abolish the online admission process which will come into effect from the next academic year. The reason being cited as the procedure takes more than two months to complete which causes a delay in the start of the academic session.
