The Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board (GSHSEB) is currently conducting its annual board examinations in 2019. The class 12 students recently appeared for the sociology exam, in which they complained that various questions were asked from outside the syllabus. According to the media reports, two entire pages of the class 12 sociology question paper were not from the curriculum they had been taught. Besides, some of the questions were even missed as a few question numbers were repeated too. After investing, the board noticed that 15 marks questions were from out-of-syllabus and concluded that the papers would be scored out of 85 marks instead of 100, based on which they would be proportionately awarded on 100. “There will be no re-test,” GSHSEB chairman A J Shah was quoted in The Indian Express report. Shah further added, “Two pages that were from the old syllabus was for 10 marks and question number 46 of five marks was missing, thus adding up to 15 marks. As students had to suffer for 15 marks, we have decided to proportionately award on 100, whatever marks they get out of 85.”

The board said that the fault lay with the printing agency and informed that it was seeking legal guidance to take possible action against them. Shah explained, “While printing the question paper, the printer did not change one printing plate and used the one of the other question papers of the same subject that was framed for students taking the exam with the old curriculum.” More Fake News Links About CBSE Examination Paper Leak Located on YouTube. 

Usually, the question papers of all mediums are similar, but sociology exam was different for all three mediums this time, complained the GSHSEB students. Where the Gujarati medium students for the class 12 sociology exam did not face any problems, the counterparts in English and Hindi medium had a challenging time trying to answer questions covered from the syllabus that had been replaced two years ago.
