Arjun Shah, a third year Chemical Engineering student from the city, secured the perfect score in the Graduate Record Examinations (GRE) experiment held on January 10. The twenty-year-old from the Institute of Chemical Technology (ICT), Matunga scored 340 out of 340 in his very first attempt. Getting the scorecard with a perfect score is definitely a unique experience. He recommended students to keep their calm to achieve accurate marks in this popular test.
“I prepared only for 20 days prior to the exam as my BE semester exams got over in December. Most engineering students find the verbal reading section in GRE difficult, but the best way to crack it is to master the words that are not familiar. There is no point in repeating things that we already know. Concentration is very important for candidates on the day of the exam. Students have to keep their calm for the four hours they are giving the exam,” Shah was quoted in a media report.
Being a Chemical designing aspirant, the twenty-year-old aims to get into one of the premier bodies in the US such as the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) for his masters in the same division. He also aims for a PhD in his later life. “The application process will start by the end of this year. I will have a better idea by then,” he said. Keeping in mind about the diminishing interest among enrolees to pursue graduate examinations in from countries like the United States, he expresses that he does not see it as a walking block. “It is important to pursue research in top colleges in the US,” he added.
His parents are into the stock market. Being the only child in the family, he enjoys playing chess and soccer during his leisure time.
The GRE is a standardized test which is conducted throughout the year and paves aspirants to get admissions in Graduate Schools in the United States. Last year, Mihir Joshi also from Mumbai pursuing Computer Engineering bagged the perfect score. Shah is reportedly the third candidate to have achieved the feat in the city since 2013.
