Tech giant Google has come up with an innovative way to ensure some Indian kids spend their summer vacations fruitfully. They have launched new educational programme for children as well as parents for the summer vacations. And 100 chosen students can spend time in their offices in Hyderabad and Gurgaon. The initiative is called #SummerWithGoogle designed for teenagers between the age groups of 13-18 years to engage them in various activities involving the different products of Google.
It is a month-long programme which will involve undertaking four assignments. These assignments will have various Google products put to use like Google Earth, Google Translate and Google Arts and Culture. The last assignment will involve developing an application to share their summer experience. “After four weeks, 100 children will be chosen along with an accompanying parent to visit our campus in either Delhi or Hyderabad to attend an interactive workshop,” Sunita Mohanty, Google India Director said. Such a programme has been launched for the first time in India and Google is urging more and more parents to join along.
Google has written a letter to parents to come forward for this initiative. They say, "The road to the summer camp will include four assignments that will make the ‘Summer of 2018’ last a lifetime. From exploring the country that is home to all the pandas in the world on Google Earth, to saying gracias and por favor as you learn phrases in Spanish and other languages on Google Translate; taking dramatic virtual tours of museums to make your own gallery on Google Arts & Culture and ultimately building your very own app to share your summer experience." Each of the assignment will teach the youngsters to be internet savvy and encourage them to make the right use of the search giant and its products.
Are you keen on enrolling your child in this programme? Then you have to follow and complete four challenges as under:
- Go to the Summer Camp With Google website every week. Pick up the latest challenge and complete it. The first challenge is already available.
- The next one will be about Google Translate. You will have to learn a new word in a different language.
- The third challenge will be related to Google Arts and Culture initiative.
- The final challenge will be creating an app using Google provided tools.
It may sound difficult but at least it is challenging and it is a great opportunity for kids. It is like an internship of sorts which involves teaching the kids the way to use their products as well as designing their own.
