Achieving success in life is not something one gets by fluke or luck, but it is a combination of skills, timing and hard work. And failure plays a massive role in your career as it truly matters how you react and learn from it. The recent achievement of a Jamia Millia Islamia student has inspired many; rags to riches tale. Despite scoring well in the JMI school board examinations, Mohammad Aamir Ali could not secure a seat in BTech course for three consecutive years. But it certainly did not stop him. And today, he has bagged a whopping Rs. 70 lakh per annum job in the United States; creating history in JMI’s achievement. Ali’s father Shamshad Ali works as an electrician at JMI who has always been supportive. After failing to get admission to BTech course in the first attempt, Ali placed himself in JMI’s Diploma in Mechanical Engineering which followed by two more unsuccessful attempts to secure a seat in the BTech course. Even with such drawbacks, Ali continued to work on a project on electric vehicles. His mentors and professors were so impressed with his work that they eventually upload the research on the university’s website. TOI reported that this project caught the attention of a United States-based firm, Frisson Motor Werks.
After learning, Ali’s work, the company at Charlotte in North Carolina approached him. One month of communication via social media platforms, Skype and rounds of telephonic interviews, Frisson Motor Werks decided to hire him as a Battery Management System Engineer. 22-Year Old IIIT- Bengaluru Student, Gets Job at Google With an Annual Package of Rs 1.2 Crore.
Speaking about his project, Amir was quoted in the same report as saying, “Charging infrastructure for electric vehicles is a major challenge in India. I developed a theory. If I succeed, the cost of charging vehicles will be almost zero. But initially, my teachers didn't believe me as it was a new area of work. However, assistant professor Waqar Alam finally realised the potential of my work and guided me. I made a prototype of my research and showcased it in the Talimi Mela of Jamia.”
Shamshad Ali said, “Aamir would ask questions on the functioning of electrical equipment and electricity that even I could not answer despite being an electrician. I always told him to work hard. I am very happy for him today.” JMI said that this is the highest salary package for any Diploma holder in Engineering since its inception. The company had offered him an annual package of $1,00,008 (Rs. 70 lakhs approx). His feat proved that it is possible to overcome life's toughest challenge and create something better for yourself.
