New Delhi, August 30: The central Government is set to provide free coaching for students preparing for entrance examinations soon. According to reports, the National Testing Agency which conducts entrance examinations across the country every year, will convert over 2,900 test practice centres into teaching centres.
These teaching centres will be holding classes for students to prepare them for entrance exams such as National Eligibilitycum-Entrance Test (NEET), Joint Entrance Examination-Main (JEE-Main) and University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET).
In a huge setback to private coaching centres though, these government teaching centres will coach students for entrance exams for absolutely no cost. "Government plans to convert these practice centres into teaching centres. They will not charge any fees and so will be especially helpful for talented students from sections where aspirations are high but private coaching is impossible due to financial constraints," said an official of the Ministry of Human Resources as quoted by TOI.
All You Need to Know
- The teaching centres will begin functioning from September 8 as per reports.
- The registrations for centres will begin on NTA website and app from September 1 and will end on September 30.
- In the first phase, registered candidates will be given free mock tests for JEE Mains 2019. The candidates can check their mock test scores with the mentors at NTA by registering for slots at the teaching centres.
- Free coaching at centres will begin after first set of entrance tests in May 2019.
This comes as a breather for many students who want to make it to good institutes for higher studies but cannot afford the fee charged by private coaching centres.
