Mumbai, September 18: Students in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh are set for a bumper Dussehra or Dasara 2019 as their festival holidays have been extended. The students of Telanga will have 16 days Dussehra holidays and the students in Andhra Pradesh will have a 12-day off from school this Dussehra, said reports. The rule applies for all the government, private and even aided schools and educational institutes. The decision was taken by the directorate of school education.
In Telangana, the holidays for school students begin from September 28 and will end on October 13. For students in junior colleges, holidays will be from September 28 to October 9 in Telangana. Dussehra is the last day or the tenth day of Navaratri which is celebrated as Dussehra or Vijayadashmi. This auspicious day marks the supremacy of good over the evil forces. There are several mythological stories attached to the day of Dussehra. The celebrations also differ from place to place. In several parts of the country, effigies of demon Ravana are burnt out, while in some parts, especially in Maharashtra, people meet and greet and exchange Sona leaves on the day.
According to mythological stories, on the day of Dussehra, Lord Rama emerged victorious over King of Lanka, Ravana, who had kidnapped Ram's wife Sita. So a lot of people burn effigies of Ravana, his brother Kumbhakarna. It also signifies with burning all our evil and bad thoughts, making way only for good and prosperity.
