Students who are aspired to study undergraduate courses offered by the coveted Delhi University may relax as they are not switching to any entrance-based admissions. Reports were doing rounds recently, of DU conducting entrance test for the 2019-20 admission session. It turns out to be only a rumour, and the admissions will be held like earlier, confirmed the Human Resources Development (HRD) Minister Prakash Javadekar. So, the candidates may take a sigh of relief and concentrate on their board exams to score higher marks and secure admissions in DU colleges. High cut-offs for admission to DU that even nears to 100 percent aggregate, often received flak. Hence, the university’s admission committee was discussing the possibility of introducing an entrance test. But, the recent comments from Javadekar that nothing of such is going to happen as of now. The HRD Minister addressed the media at an event on the National Testing Agency (NTA) successful conducting of National Eligibility Test (NET). According to The Indian Express, Javadekar even added that the decision of Jawaharlal Nehru University to hold online entrance exams next year reportedly collaborating with the NTA is “not final yet.” He was quoted as saying, “There will be no entrance examinations in Delhi University. Earlier in December, JNU said in a press release that the Vice Chancellor informed the members of the Academic Council that NTA has agreed to conduct the computer-based entrance exams. But at the recent meet, Javadekar reported that “this hasn’t been decided.” However, the university has already made an announcement on its website about collaborating with the newly-conducting body. Citing the same at the meet, the HRD Minister said, “They (JNU) have decided, but they’re still in talks with the NTA. It’s not final yet.”
Meanwhile, JNU’s Rector I Chintamani Mahapatra reported that the agreement is in process. He said, “The minister is right that the agreement is in process. We have already spoken to them (NTA) and they have agreed. It’s all in the pipeline, it will be done. He (Javadekar) didn’t say that nothing is going to happen.”
