New Delhi, October 1: Five new undergraduate courses will be started by the Delhi University from January 2020. The University Grants Commission (UGC) received request from 22 varsities, seeking approval for extending their distance learning programmes. The nodal education body, however, decided to approve only four proposals, including the one sent by the School of Open Learning (SOL) of the Delhi University. The new courses - BA, BCom, BA English Honors, BA Political Science Honours and BCom Honours - will begin from January next year. The admission process is expected to begin by the year-end and the study material would be uploaded by November 2019, said reports citing SOL officials.
Students not only from India, but all parts of the world would be eligible to apply for the new online courses of DU. A special website will be set up by the varsity to provide features like live live streaming of lecturer, e-books and also access to notes and study materials.
Apart from rejigging its online education process, the Delhi University is also planning to conduct 30 per cent of its examination -- for students appearing under the SOL programme -- online. The switch to online examinations will be completed in a phased manner, said an official, adding that it is one of the top priorities of the management.
