Cyclone Gaja: Anna University Exams Postponed; Varsity to Conduct Theory Papers on November 22

The university issued another notice, stating that November 15 examinations will now be conducted on November 22. Students must note that the remaining schedule remains the same.

The cyclonic storm ‘Gaja’ centred over the Bay of Bengal, is predicted to make a landfall between Cuddalore and Pamban today evening, bring heavy rainfall to Tamil Nadu. All educational institutions in Puducherry and Karaikal regions are declared closed on November 15. Concerning the situation, Anna University cancelled today’s examination. According to the notification available on annauniv.edu, the exams for all the departments and affiliated colleges of the varsity has been postponed. Further, the students must note that the remaining schedule remains the same. The theory exams which were planned for forenoon would be conducted in the morning and the ones that were scheduled for the afternoon would be held in the afternoon, but on November 22. Puducherry University too has postponed all the exams that were to be held today. Reportedly, the exams for all the courses which were scheduled to be held at exam centres located in Puducherry, Karaikal, Mahe, Yanam and Andaman and Nicobar Islands have been postponed. Anna University to Cancel Affiliation of Engineering College in Pudukkottai Over Malpractices During Semester Exam. 

The Tamil Nadu government has put its machinery on alert and kept on standby reportedly over 30,000 rescue personnel. Besides, three teams of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) have arrived in Nagapattinam in the state. 20 cyclone shelters have been kept in readiness to accommodate people. Thousands of people have already been shifted to the relief centre in Nagapattinam and effort to evacuate all those living in low lying areas are on. As per the statement released by the government, arrangements have been made to send SMSes to mobile subscribers warning about the weather as issued by the emergency control centres.
