CLAT Back to Offline Mode! From 2019, Entrance Exam for Law Courses Will Be Conducted in Pen-Paper Format

After coming up with significant improvements in the examination pattern, the Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) goes back to offline mode. The Consortium of National Law Universities, on its fourth meeting held recently, decided to conduct CLAT 2019 in its old offline manner. Reportedly, the decision was taken after complaints of technical glitches experienced in the last few years were forwarded. As a result, Consortium pronounced to bring back the pen-paper exam pattern. According to a press release, the online test will be ‘re-considered’ in case the number of candidates appearing in CLAT drastically increases. The press release as per TOI report, reads, “It was also decided that as and when the number of candidates taking up CLAT drastically increases or when admission to law colleges in the entire country would be based only on CLAT score, the feasibility of online test will be re-considered.” Further, the consortium, headed by Prof Faizan Mustafa, vice-chancellor of Nalsar, Hyderabad, proposed significant changes in the examination pattern too. From next year, besides multiple choice-based questions, for admissions into LLM course, the PG CLAT would also have a subjective portion. The details of the same are being taken care of by the CLAT Executive Committee and are expected to be announced soon. The Consortium in order to improve the quality of CLAT question paper, will create a question bank for which experts from all NLUs and other institutes will contribute. They even plan to conduct CLAT in other centres or cities depending on the number of candidates. The Consortium will hold a workshop in collaboration with NAAC and UGC on developing objective parameters for accreditation of NLUs by NAAC and other accrediting agencies.
