After looking at the seriousness of the continuous attacks on children inside the institutes in the past year, the Delhi Cabinet approved the installation of CCTV cameras in all its government schools. Under the Directorate of Education (DoE), the cameras would be fitted outside washrooms, classrooms, laboratories, vacant rooms and other inaccessible areas across NCR to stop child abuse in the school premises. Besides, the national capital has also decided to give online access to parents so that can see their children’s classroom. The idea was first proposed by the Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal last year through which the parents would be able to access to the live feeds of their children’s classroom through a mobile application. In an official statement, the Delhi government said as quoted in TOI, “The cabinet accorded its administrative approval and the expenditure sanction for the installation of CCTV cameras in government schools under the Directorate of Education (DoE). In May this year, reportedly, the Expenditure Finance Committee had approved Rs. 597 crore project to install about 1.46 lakh cameras in schools, including inside classrooms. On Tuesday’s hearing, the cabinet also agreed to increase the daily salary of guest teachers from Rs. 1,050 to Rs. 1,403 per day. DoE includes guest teachers since 2010 who are paid on a daily wage basis. The proposed revision in this regard shall be submitted for approval to the Lt Governor.
