The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has assured students to announce the fresh dates of the re-examination of the Class 10 Mathematics paper and Class 12 Economics Papers by March 31 at cbse.nic.in. The decision of a retest following question papers leak has shaken the nation. CBSE students and their concerned parents have gathered at Jantar Mantar in Delhi to protest against this announcement. On the other hand, the Delhi Police is investigating the matter and so far, have questioned nearly 25 people, mostly students who had access to the handwritten leaked question papers.

On March 28, CBSE circulated a notice stating to hold re-examination of Class 10th Math and Class 12th Economics paper looking into the circumstances that led to question paper leak. The board has said that the dates of the same shall be announced by the end of this week which is March 31, on its official website. According to media reports, the Police are trying to trace the source of the leaked papers that have allegedly been circulated over WhatsApp. The cases were registered on charges of criminal breach of trust, cheating and criminal conspiracy.

The Union Education Minister, Prakash Javadekar underlined that the leaks appeared to be a localised problem which is limited just to Delhi. The Delhi Police said that they received a fax on March 23 naming a person from Rajinder Nagar who reportedly runs a coaching institute behind the question paper leak. The complaint was forwarded to the CBSE Regional Office Delhi on March 24 and they have shared a copy of the same to inspector Shri Susheel Yadav. This is raising questions if the board was already aware of the paper leak and should have acted before the examination got underway.

This is not the first time that the question paper leak has saddened the CBSE examination. In 2006, Business Studies question paper of CBSE Class 12 was reportedly leaked, in 2011 Class 12 Science paper was leaked and in the same year class 12th Math exam paper was also leaked. Such instances make the students future at stake. CBSE must take and adopt strict measure to stop such cases that disappoints the exam spirit.
