There has been a nation-wide outrage among students and their concerned parents for CBSE’s mismanagement. Followed with the question paper leaks of class 10 mathematics and class 12 economics, CBSE introduced encrypted question papers in class 10 compartmental exams across 487 centres. The solution was successfully tested as a pilot project among 4,000 students in the examination. Microsoft developed the encrypted security solution for digital question papers for the board and said that the Controller of Examination could track the entire process using a software solution built on Windows 10 and Office 365. CBSE Class 10th & 12th Compartment 2018 Re-evaluation Begins Today.

This solution influence features in Office 365 to encrypt and watermark the question papers. Anil Bhansali, Managing Director, Microsoft India (R and D) and Corporate Vice President, Cloud and Enterprise told IANS, “We have developed for CBSE an innovative solution which makes question papers leak-proof until 30 minutes prior to the start of the examinations.” He further added, “But if the question papers get leaked after they are allowed to download (just half an hour before the start of the exam) due to some bad actors, the system allows easy traceability as question paper for each centre are watermarked.”

Currently, the solution leverages features in Office 365 to encrypt and watermark the papers; is under an experimental run. However, it had passed the first test during the class 10 July compartmental exams 2018. If successful, the new system allows the examiners first to identify themselves before they can download the question papers. Only after their authentication, they will get the copy 30 minutes before the commencement of the board exams. Microsoft even stated that the new system can even be actioned in other state and central boards to conduct the examinations preventing cheating menace.
