New Delhi, August 23: In a bid to change the learning procedure from rote learning to conceptual understanding, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) is planning to change the question paper pattern of Class 10th and 12th exams from the next academic year i.e. 2019-20. According to a report by TOI, the CSBE also plans to conduct vocational exams in the month of February and the main exam in March along with the early declaration of results. If any changes are implemented, it would be made available on the official website cbse.nic.in.
The report quotes an official saying that the new exam pattern would test students on their analytical abilities thus reducing the scope of rote learning. According to a report by TOI, a senior official of the HRD Ministry on request of anonymity said the questions will be more in the nature of problem-solving and there will be more short questions between 1 to 5 marks.
“The stress would be on probing the critical thinking abilities of students and test actual learning outcomes rather than allow students to score high marks by virtue of rote," the official said. Once approved, the new paper pattern would be implemented from the academic year 2019-20.
The official further said that the board is already working toward the changes in the pattern of questions from 2020. According to the proposal submitted for approval, the CBSE has also submitted new ‘CBSE bylaws’ to the ministry for approval, which the focus during affiliation/renewal of schools will be on the academic quality of institutions.
