It seems that the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) is not getting away being in controversies. Starting from question paper leaks to conducting national entrance exams, the board’s significant mismanagement has been highlighted very often this year. After the board exam results were announced, CBSE’s major blooper exposed. The board officials forgot basic math! A Delhi girl’s after applying for re-evaluation revealed that the board did not add her marks correctly. About 10,000 students have become victims of totalling errors in CBSE class 10 and class 12 board exam results. A recent report shows that out of the total number of class 12 students who applied for a recheck, 50 per cent of them got more marks. Meghna Shrivastava Is Still the CBSE Class 12 2018 Topper, Ishrita Gupta Is Nagpur’s Topper After Re-Evaluation.

TOI reported that this year, a total of 9,111 class 12 students applied for a recheck and in 4,632 evaluation mistakes were found. In fact, Nagpur got a new CBSE class 12 topper after a student’s marks in political science increased by 22 in re-evaluation. Ishrita Gupta scored more than 95 marks in all other subjects and got significant low marks in Political Science. In an obvious outcome, it came out that 17 of her answers was not marked correctly. Earlier reports even revealed that students who scored zero after revaluation managed to secure a passing mark in that particular subject. The report further stated that every second applicant who applied for re-evaluation this year had gained more marks, showing total mishandling by the central board. CBSE Needs to Learn Mathematics! Board Fails to Calculate the Total Marks, Revaluation Reveals the Inefficiency

In order to rectify such significant blunders, CBSE initiated action against 214 teachers. To prevent such mistakes in general, the board allows two teachers to evaluate each paper. CBSE Secretary Anurag Tripathi told TOI that the two-evaluator system is successful as 99.6 per cent copies are correctly assessed. Explaining the embarrassing situation, Tripathi said that the remaining number existed because of the burden on evaluators; “Around 50,000 evaluators are dealing with 61.34 lakh copies.” He further informed that the board had decided to introduce re-evaluation again this year so that no students suffer due to such errors.

This year’s case is not the first time as last year too; reports came into forefront where many students became the victim of CBSE’s totalling errors. And it was due to this reason that the board came up with two evaluators per answer book. But time and again, it proved that the measure did not work at all. A high-powered committee which was set up last month by the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) raised concerns about CBSE’s evaluation process.
