CBSE Classes 9 & 11 Syllabus: Board Discontinues English Communicative & Other Elective Subjects

English Communicative which was earlier opted by students entering Class 9, will be discontinued. It has notified all the CBSE affiliated schools to not continue with few elective subjects.

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has announced major changes for the syllabus of Classes 9 and 11. In a letter dated March 9, 2018, the board officials specified of academic and vocational subjects at Secondary and Senior Secondary Level from the session 2018-19. According to the circular, English Communicative which was earlier opted by students entering Class 9, will be discontinued. The notice has been uploaded by CBSE officials at cbseacademic.nic.in. It has notified all the CBSE affiliated schools to not continue with few elective subjects. Apart from English Communicative, two other elective subjects have been discontinued for class 9 students and three electives for class 11 students.

It is also important to note that, the recent development will come in practice for the session 2018-19. The students pursuing the subjects currently in class 9 and 11 shall continue with them in class 10 and 12 respectively, 2018-19 session.

Subjects discontinued for class 9 students:

1. English Communicative (101)

2. Information and Communication Technology (166)

3. e-Publishing and e-Office (354 and 454)

Subjects discontinued for class 11 students:

1. Dance—Mohiniyattam (062)

2. Multimedia and Web Technology (067)

3. English Elective- CBSE (101)

Besides, CBSE has also merged few vocational elective subjects that will be offered as elective to class 11 students in the upcoming academic session 2018-19. These subjects include Agriculture (068), Fashion Studies (053) and Mass Media Studies (072). The further mentioned that Sanskrit Communicative (122) will be replaced by Sanskrit (122) and Foundations of Information Technology (165) has been renamed ad Computer Applications (165). Meanwhile, CBSE board examinations are underway for classes 10 and 12 across the nation. According to reports, nearly 28 lakh candidates are appearing for the exams. This year, CBSE has come up with a lot of modifications that have enhanced the scope of education. We hope the recent introduction in the CBSE syllabus for classes 9 and 11 will be valuable to all the students.
