CBSE Class 12th Results Could Boost Delhi University Cut-offs Marks! Admissions to Get Tougher
Once all the examination boards declare the results, Delhi University will put up the cut-off list that will start in June 2018. Cut-offs last year was as high as 99.66 percent in DU.
After much wait, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) finally announced its examination results of class 12th. This year, the toppers has set a new record and the number of students achieving more than 95 percent have increased abruptly. As CBSE candidates embraces their scores, competition to study in colleges under Delhi University gets tougher. The overall pass percentage of CBSE class 12 exams 2018 saw a rise of 82.02 percent this year as compared to last year which was 83.01. And over 12,700 candidates surpassed the exam scoring above 95 percent which brings the count to 2,646 more than the previous year.
This year, CBSE saw the second highest passing percentage in the last five years. In 2017, there were many students who scored more than 90 percent but the cut-offs at both Delhi University and Ambedkar University remained high. Once all the examination boards declare the results, Delhi University will put up the cut-off list that will start in June 2018. Cut-offs last year was as high as 99.66 percent in DU. In response to what the university is expecting this year, a DU official reported Hindustan Times; “Of course cut-offs will increase. But by how much we can only tell after all the applications are received.”
Since the past few years, candidates willing to study in DU whined over unrealistically high cut-offs which deprived them to take admissions to colleges of their choice. For all the three streams, this year, it will be tough as there are many who have scored 100 percent marks in subjects such as Political Science, Economics, Mathematics and Science.
Hindu College Principal Anju Srivastava told Indian Express; “The first cut-off will be on the high side. If 95% scorers are more, it will have an impact. To be on the safe side, we will have to keep to keep the cut-off high, even if it’s unrealistic. By the second cut-off, it may go down.” The cut-offs for DU is relative to CBSE results as the board has the maximum number of applicants. Delhi University has 56,000 seats for its undergraduate courses.
