CAA Protests Reaches From Jamia to Aligarh in Uttar Pradesh, AMU Administration Suspends Varsity Functions Till January 5

New Delhi/Aligarh, December 15: Hours after the protests over Citizenship Amendment Act by Jamia Millia Islamia turned violent and several Delhi Transport Corporation buses were set ablaze in the national capital on Sunday, the heat was felt in Aligarh were hundreds of Aligarh Muslim University began protesting against CAA clash with state police at the campus gate. Taking stern action, police used baton and tear gas to disperse them, and AMU administration closed the varsity's classes and exams till January 5.
According to reports, coming from various news sources, the students of AMU allegedly clashed with Uttar Pradesh police during their protests against the controversial CAA, which was passed in the Rajya Sabha on Wednesday and got assent from President Ram Nath Kovind on Thursday night. Following the clash with the police, reports of violence were heard. Soon after this, police used batons and tear-gas to disperse them and AMU Registrar Abdul Hamid informed that no classes or examination will be held till January 5. In other report from Delhi, Father George PA, spokesperson of Holy Family Hospital, said that they have received about 26 university (Jamia Millia Islamia) students who suffered minor injuries. Most of them have been discharged now. Adding more, it said that two police personnel have also been admitted with head injuries, maybe due to stone pelting. However, unconfirmed reports state that 35 students were brought to Delhi's Holy Family Hospital with injuries, among which 11 are admitted.
Meanwhile, Deputy Chief Minister of Delhi Manish Sisodia on Sunday announced that all schools and colleges to stay closed in Okhla, Jamia and New Friends Colony and Madanpur Khadar area of Delhi. Following the reports of violent clash, Centre issued a directive to both the Delhi government and Delhi Police, stating to take strict action against the perpetrators of violence in the national capital. The Union government also mentioned that it is keeping a close watch on the developments, that have created headlines in national media.
In the meantime, DMRC closed entry and exit gates of another 4 Metro stations amid tense situation. The stations include -- IIT, ITO, Delhi Gate and Pragati Maidan Metro. It had earler closed the entry and exit gates of GTB Nagar, Shivaji Stadium, Patel Chowk and Vishwavidyalaya, Vasant Vihar, Munirka, RK Puram, Sukhdev Vihar, Jamia Millia Islamia, Okhla Vihar and Jasola Vihar Shaheen Bagh Metro stations. However, it had opened the gates for Ashram Metro station.
Violence in Delhi erupted on Sunday afternoon, when a section of protesters in the march led by Jamia Millia Islamia students resorted to violence. The miscreants burnt down four buses and vandalised over a dozen vehicles. Fire brigade personnel who were rushed to the site were also allegedly pelted with stones by the infuriated mob.
