New Delhi, September 26: Amid protests by Chartered Accountant aspirants over alleged errors in the evaluation of papers, Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) President CA Prafulla P Chhajed on Thursday said that their paper-checking procedure is "foolproof" and "absolutely human untouched". "Under the coding system, nobody can identify which answer paper belongs to whom. It is an absolutely human untouched system," CA Chhajed said in a press conference. CA Students Protest: Rahul Gandhi Backs Agitation Against ICAI, Says Exam Papers Must be Re-Evaluated.

The ICAI chief reiterated that students have the right to apply for re-evaluation, assuring that there were no errors in the paper evaluation process. "Ten percent of papers are reviewed to ensure quality check. Students can also apply for re-evaluation. Indian Chartered Accountant qualification is a benchmark against those of various advanced countries," he asserted. He further said that the institute is considering to form an independent committee to look into grievances of the students. List of ICAI Exam Reforms Demanded by Protesting Students.

"We are considering to form an independent, high-level committee to look into the grievances of the students as well as to suggest the roadmap for the future. I will discuss the issue with council members before announcing formation of the committee," Chhajed said, adding that the ICAI is open to listening to the grievances of the students.

Students have been protesting against ICAI, demanding the right to get answer-sheets re-evaluated. Also supported by some chartered accountants, who run CA coaching classes, students are demanding better transparency in the paper evaluation process. They are also demanding an amendment to Regulation 39(4) of the Chartered Accountants Act, 1949. The agitation got a boost when Congress leader Rahul Gandhi extended his support to students.

Under the existing system, students can't demand revaluation of answers by the ICAI. They can only demand re-totalling of marks and can't question the merit of not awarding numbers for a particular answer.
