Aadhaar Number Not Mandatory for UGC NET, JEE Main 2019 Application Form, Clarifies NTA

The candidates can use any of the authorised and acceptable identification numbers. Registrations for UGC NET, 2018 December exam, ends on September 30.

After receiving tons of queries from the aspirants, the National Testing Agency (NTA) has clarified that Aadhaar Card is not mandatory to fill in the applications for the upcoming University Grants Commission (UGC) National Eligibility Test (NET). The students must also note that the provision is also applicable for the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main 2019. Instead, the candidates can use any of the authorised and acceptable identification numbers including Passport number, Ration Card number, Bank Account number or any other valid government identity number. The notice published on the website, reads, “It is hereby clarified that while filling in online application form and as per the ‘Replica of Application Form’ given in Annexure VIII (UGC-NET Bulletin December 2018) in the drop down box regarding ‘identification type’ and as also given on page 11, the Aadhaar number is only one of the types of identification and is not mandatory.” It further added, “The note on page 11 of UGC-NET Bulletin December, 2018 clearly provides that the candidates can also enter passport number, ration card number, bank account number or any other valid government identity number.” UGC Grants 5% Relaxation to Reserved Category Candidates for PhD & MPhil Courses. 

NTA as an agency under the Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Human Resource Development (HRD) has commenced the registration process for both JEE Main and UGC NET. The JEE Main 2019 is scheduled to held from January 6 to 20. The entire schedule of all the national competitive exams and the result dates was released by NTA last month. The admit card for December UGC NET exams will be issued on November 19, and the results are expected on January 10, 2019. NTA wrote at the end of its notice that the online application form which is being filled in currently, must have a valid government identity number.
