Gopalganj, June 23: The Special Investigating Team (SIT) formed to probe a case of missing of more than 42,000 evaluated answer sheets of Class 10th of Bihar School Examination Board (BSEB) has achieved a major breakthrough. According to a report published in India Today, the SIT has arrested a scrap dealer who purchased answer sheets for Rs 8,000 by the peon of the college, Chattu Singh.

Almost a week back, evaluated answer sheets went missing from the storage room of S.S Girls Inter College in Gopalganj. The SIT has also arrested an autorickshaw driver, Santosh Kumar in connection with the case. The autorickshaw driver transported the answer sheets from the college to the scrap dealer's shop.

The college headmaster Pramod Srivastava lodged an FIR against the peon and the night guard for their alleged involvement in the conspiracy. The peon was arrested on June 19. However, the headmaster was also arrested after the Bihar Board officials registered an FIR against, him. All the three accused were sent to Gopalganj jail.

The SIT carried out searches at the various scrap dealers in Gopalganj. According to the report, the team picked up Pappu Kumar Gupta, a scrap dealer in Haziapur locality and questioned him. During interrogation, the scrap dealer admitted his involvement in the case. He confessed that he purchased the evaluated answer sheets from Chattu Singh for Rs 8,000. Gupta also alleged the autorickshaw driver for being part of the conspiracy, as he transported the answer sheets. The police have arrested both. Most of the answer sheets have been recovered from the scrap dealer's shop.

Zama Rashid, SP Gopalganj told India Today, “Chattu Singh used to sell the answer sheets to the scrap dealer every year since 2014. However, the matter came to light only this year when the Bihar Board officials came to verify the answer sheets of few students. The scrap dealer and his associate have been arrested and sent to jail. Further investigations are going on in this case.” The Class 10th results of the Bihar Board was earlier scheduled to be declared on June 20, but when Bihar Board officials came to know about the missing answer sheets,  the declaration of results has been postponed for June 26.
