Kolkata, October 10: The Calcutta High Court on Wednesday refused to accept the PIL filed against state government's decision to offer grants to puja committees for Durga Puja in West Bengal. This comes as a big win for the government as the state High Court had refused to intervene in Mamata Banerjee Puja sop matter. West Bengal Government to Give Rs 10,000 to Durga Puja Committees, Announces Mamata Banerjee.

Last week on Friday, the Calcutta High Court ordered an interim stay on Mamata Banerjee government’s decision to provide a grant of Rs 10,000 to each of 28,000 Durga Puja committees across the state.

The High Court raised questions whether the state government can misuse or whether there is any guideline or check valve for making such donations. The Court questioned whether the state government made similar donations for the festival of other religions. It will cost the state government Rs 28 crore.
