New Delhi, Aug 14: Suspended paediatrician of Gorakhpur's BRD Medical College Dr Kafeel Khan on Tuesday said he recevied a threat vis SMS on his mobile phone. Kafeel Khan shared screenshot of 'threat' message on social media, adding that he won't bend by such intimidation. Khan received the message hours after firing at JNU scholar Umar Khalid.

"Ab teri bari hai Bacjega Nahi Ab tu (Now its your turn. You won't be spared)," reads the SMS sent to Kafeel Khan by an unknown sender. "So after my brother after Umar its me?....M (sic) not going to bend, I speak my heart," wrote Dr Khan while sharing screenshot of the SMS on social media. He was among those who were present at the event where Khalid was scheduled to come.

An event titled 'Khauff Se Azaadi' was organised by an organisation named 'United Against Hate' at the Constitution Club of India, about half-a-kilometre from Parliament and behind the high-security Reserve Bank of India. According to Khalid, he was with five friends at a tea stall outside the Constitution Club when a man holding gun tried to kill him.

“I was attacked right before my program was scheduled to start at the Constitution Club. I was having tea opposite the venue when a man attacked me from behind. He pushed me to the ground and aimed his gun at me. I somehow pushed him away, after which a gunshot was fired, but I escaped. I have received threats in the past too, but this was the first time there was an assassination attempt. I have sought police protection now,” Khalid told ANI after recording his statement with the police.
