Doctors Use Amputated Leg of Patient as Pillow at Jhansi Hospital in Uttar Pradesh, Suspended
As per reports, the victim is a cleaner in a school bus and injured when the bus carrying children toppled to avoid collision with a tractor.
Jhansi, March 10: In an appalling incident in a Uttar Pradesh medical college, doctors allegedly used the amputated leg of a patient as a pillow under his head. The incident took place in a government medical care in the town of Jhansi. The doctors at Maharani Laxmi Bai Medical College put the amputated leg under the victim's head to help him.
After an uproar following the incident, the hospital suspended one senior resident orthopedic doctor, one EMO, nurse in-charge and one other person. Also, departmental proceedings have been initiated against consultant on-call doctor, said Sadhna Kaushik, College Principal.
Visuals of the man which were aired on local channels showed him lying on a stretcher with bandages around the leg. The attendants of the patient at Maharani Laxmi Bai Medical College alleged that his severed leg was used as a pillow.
As per reports, the victim is a cleaner in a school bus and injured when the bus carrying children toppled to avoid collision with a tractor. The incident happened on Saturday in Mauranipur area of Jhansi district in Uttar Pradesh. He was immediately rushed to Jhansi medical college, where the doctors amputated his leg to avoid infection.

Kaushik had earlier said, "He was given immediate medical aid. The doctor looked for something to raise his head. Patient's attendant used the leg for the same. We've set up the committee. Strict action will be taken if our staff is found to be at fault."
However, there are also claims that the patient's leg was severed in the mishap and was not amputated by the doctors in the hospital. Later, Chief Medical Superintendent of the hospital Dr. Harischandra Arya also confirmed that an investigation had been ordered into the matter.
